About Notary Practice Tests

Notary exam practice, built around the source.

Notary Practice Tests is an independent study resource for people preparing to become notaries public in the United States. It pairs state-specific practice questions with plain-language explanations and a link back to the official source.

Why this site exists

Notary rules are set state by state, and they change. A candidate in California studies a different handbook than a candidate in New York, Pennsylvania, or North Carolina, yet most study material treats “the notary exam” as one thing. We built Notary Practice Tests to keep each state’s rules separate and to show where every answer comes from.

The goal is simple: help you find what you do not yet know before exam day, then send you back to the current official material to close the gap.

What you can do here

California, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and North Carolina each offer 10 free practice questions today, drawn from a 400-question state bank. Full access to a state's bank is planned as a paid option. Every question is multiple choice with four options and an explanation that names the rule it tests.

You can start without creating an account. Your answers, scores, and topic results are saved in your browser, so you can close the tab and continue later on the same device. After each form you see results by topic and can revisit the questions you missed.

Each state also has a guide that explains the exam path in plain language: who qualifies, how to apply, which official handbook or statute to study, and what to do after you pass.

How the questions are written

Every question is original. We do not copy or reproduce official exam questions, and we do not have access to them. Questions are written from the state’s own published materials, such as the notary handbook, the statute, and the administrative rules.

Each question records its source title, the exact page or section, the edition, and the date the source was last checked. That information appears under the explanation as a “Source reference” so you can verify the answer yourself.

Independent by design

We are not a government agency, examination provider, law firm, or notarial service. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any state or public agency, and we do not sell official certification. Passing a practice form here does not qualify you to perform notarial acts and does not guarantee a result on any exam.

What a practice score means

A score on a practice form tells you how you did on that set of questions. It is useful for spotting weak topics. It is not a prediction of your exam result, and form length, timing, and scoring here are practice settings, not the state’s official exam specification.

Keeping content current

Laws, handbooks, and application procedures are revised from time to time. We re-check our sources, record the date, and revise or withdraw any question that no longer matches the official text. If you notice something out of date, please tell us through the Contact page.
